Sometimes in other countries Internet Access is few and far between...this was the case last 2 days. Sorry I haven't written. I don't have time to recap last 2 days right now but will later.
I am about to board the plane in Nairobi after a 9 hour drive from Mombasa and 2 hours here at the airport. I then have an 8-9 hour flight to Brussels, Belgium. Once I am there I have a 5 hour layover until my flight to Newark, New Jersey which will take 8 hours. Once I am there I have a 4 hour layover until my flight to Atlanta, Georgia which will take 2.5 hours. Once I am there I will take a shuttle van to Chattanooga, Tennessee which will take 2 hours. Madison is picking me up and taking me home. I will then get about 5 hours sleep before heading to work Tuesday morning. Going to be crazy but God can help me. PLEASE PRAY FOR ME.
I will see some of you soon...In Christ,

Oh America...
Today was a very taxing day on me...not for reasons of Ministry either. Yesterday we didn't get all that we needed done accomplished so we said we were going to get started early. I was awake and ready by 7:30......at 11:30 we left. Life here is soooooooooo slow that it kills me sometimes.
We finally left and headed to Fort Jesus a big fort used in wars past which protected Mombasa. That in of itself is always a great experience. Getting to see history, even not your own, up close and personal. To see how they made these rooms, walls, etc. is fascinating to me. On the way though little Kyle, a 2 year old of some of Fred's friends, was not happy and screemed so loud I think my ears bleeded...for a long time. When we were at Fort Jesus it happened 2 different times for many minutes each. Then on the way back to Fred's...and then again at Fred's...I'm not sure what was going on with him but he was not happy and he gave me a splitting headache which I never get.
We left him at the apartment with the nanny and we decided to try and find the beach ourselves. After an hour, in the wrong direction, Fred came and got us and took us to the right place. It was almost sunset by the time we got there though. Even when we did they disappeared and I was left not able to get in the water because of holding all my stuff. You cannot leave stuff on the beach or if you turn your back, it will be gone. Though once we met back up I forgot about all of this until now. Sorry if it seems like I'm venting...but I am. Ha. If I don't vent to you at home then I will explode here.
The Indian Ocean is very strange. When I walked down on the beach 3 different camels walked by with people leading them, 3 different horses went by with riders, there are merchants trying to sell you stuff right on the beach, there are guys that will walk up to you trying to sell something or do acrobatics and expect money (I'm talking like 5 different ones before you even can get to the water), boats docked close to beach of all types, even Jet Ski's...moral: Everyone is trying to make a dollar here...and I mean a dollar, stuff is cheap. Another strange thing, really strange, there were NO waves...yep, I said it, NO waves. It was like a lake, not an ocean: No waves, grassy bottom except in spots of sand, warm water, boats everywhere, etc.
Anyway, we are supposed to go earlier tomorrow (we'll see how early) and maybe rent a boat to go out in. I want to go somewhere to snorkel as I brought my mask & snorkel.
For the first time I'm actually getting a little homesick. Life is just SO different here and I know I'm missing things back home. Pray that work isn't SO crazy when I get back that I get overwelmed. God is still doing things here in friends and families hearts and mine so I'm happy to be here just saying I'm a bit homesick. Would love to hear from you guys, a bit of encouragement. Mid Week in Mombasa!
I want to start out with a SHOUT OUT to my biggest fans: The 5th and 6th grade class at Culman Christian back in Alabama! We had a great time the other day talking back and forth from Mombasa Kenya to Culman Alabama US. They had lots of great questions, I hope I answered them well enough.
Today started off with some fellowship, fun, and worship even as we sat around and played the guitar and sang together. Some of Fred’s friends came in town too for the wedding. They are some great people and have a young son named Kyle, ha. Very cute kid. It was great getting to know them and fellowship together. Julius has some amazing stories. He spent 2 years in a village miles from anywhere ministering to the community of village Muslims. He spent a lot of time with God and a guitar.

We then went into town where I was able to hang at the Café and upload some more pics/blogs/emails/FB. Fred and Sharon left us behind to go on to the hotel where the wedding is being held. We rode a 3 wheel taxi there after called a Tuk-Tuk, that was an experience in of itself.
After getting there I enjoyed the beautiful day at the beach while they talked about the wedding plans. We were there for several hours so I got to tour the beach and walk in the water but no swimming this time. The water was really warm and it was like 90 degrees, so it wasn’t really that tempting. In the trees there was such a breeze, it was amazing. The hotel had beds out by the beach, so I laid down for a while and then put my feet in the cold pool water. It was a very nice relaxing day for me…I wish I could say the same for Fred and Sharon. Wow, I never knew how stressful that wedding planning could be. Working out all of the details and the money situation too, so crazy sometimes. From there we ran around town and got some things done. Overall, a good day…it will become more stressful I’m sure as the week goes on BUT it will all be worth it in the end. I may have a free ride back with new friends to Nairobi instead of having to ride the bus back alone. Pray that it works out as Sunday night is my flight back home. Looking forward to getting back to my place and my friends and family. I will miss the people I’ve met here and pray that I’ve impacted them in some way the past 2 weeks for Christ and that God is glorified in what I’ve done and said. The week is NOT over yet so God can still do great things in all of us. Pray it is so!

Mombasa Day 2...
It is buy 1 get 1 free day at PreacherHawk Blog...I just uploaded yesterday's that I wrote last night but I had Fred drop me off at the Cafe so I could pay some bills, blog, email, FB, etc.
This morning started as yesterday's so I'll skip to going to his best man's house and having a breakfast type donut and tea. The three of us then took off to a shop so I could buy some gifts for some of you. As we went in and looked I found all sorts of great things but prices were a little steep...Fred then whispered "just look for what you want and the prices and then we'll go somewhere else." So I did, not knowing what he meant. So we walked out across the parking lot, thru a door I wouldn't go thru by myself and into an almost identical shop. I then found something identical to what I looked at the other store and it was almost 1/4th the price. It was insane. I bought almost everything that I wanted and more for next to nothing. He said the first shop was for the Mzungu's and the second shop was for the Africans but he took me anyway. So stoked about it.
We then met up with another friend of his and had lunch. Had an opportunity to talk to him about his upcoming wedding and without me asking he started asking about salvation. I told him it was about a relationship and not religion, God's grace and not works. He seemed interested. We didn't get to finish the conversation as the food came but after he told me if he didn't see me again before Saturday we'd talk at the wedding. Praying for Ferdie (Ferdinand) and that he won't be able to sleep tonight without thinking about what we talked about.
We then left him and went to the Hotel to check out the place where the wedding is going to be. WOW. If the rain holds off as it did today, gorgeous day, then the wedding will take place ON the beach or in the trees right by the beach. If it rains then it will be inside. Pray that the rain holds off for their ease of mind...and the sheer beautiful wedding it will be if in the sand of the Indian Ocean!
Speaking of Indian Ocean...after that he took and dropped me off at the beach. SO I spent a couple hours swimming and walking the beach while they ran around and met with others about the wedding.

The Indian Ocean!
After they picked me back up, after dark, we picked up Sharon and then here I am at the Cafe. PUMPED about getting a good deal on presents for family, PUMPED I got to share the gospel with Ferdie today and PUMPED about swimming in the Indian Ocean! Such a good day!
Continue to pray for me as Intentional Evangelism with Fred's friends and family has begun! Praise God that most of his family are Christ Followers but I believe God has me here for more than just attending his wedding, so I'm sure that besides Ferdie God is going to use me to point others to Him.

Mombasa Day 1
Woke up at Fred’s Apt and took a shower, yes a shower, a nice one too. Still a cold shower, tho there is an option to warm the water but takes like 30 minutes. They only take cold showers. Took my time getting ready. Played some guitar and sang in the living room with the porch door open. Despite the rain there was a beautiful breeze coming in and the birds singing. Fred came from work about 10 and picked me up. We went downtown Mombasa and walked around. Went to the jeweler to check the rings and to get them engraved. We then went to several shops…one that gave me ideas for presents for home but Fred said tomorrow (Tues) we will go to a much better shop and we can at least compare. Then every shoe shop in the city to try and find Fred some wedding shoes to go with his all white suit.
He then took me to the Indian Ocean which is no distance at all from downtown. I took some quick pics but will visit later because it was raining. So cool seeing another ocean though. We went for some authentic Swahili food with a coastal twist using coconuts and such, it was very good. Reminded me more of Indian food: rice with chicken and sauce that was a bit sweet and a bit spicy. He then did some work while I wrote part of this in his work truck. We then went to yet another part of town and finally found some shoes. It was fun watching him negotiate pricing, which I would expect in a local shop but this was a nice shoe store. It worked though. He used the money that Joe gave me to give him.
Finally Sharon was off work and rode the fairy so we picked her up. She said she had to ride 4 Matata’s (vans that are taxi’s but much crazier) just to get to the fairy. That is crazy. They just kept stopping short of where she needed to go. We then met up with the wedding coordinator. Wow, not getting me too excited about a future wedding, Lord willing. Haha. “This isn’t the right shade of yellow or green…well yellow is ok, but bring me a different green tomorrow” & “What if it rains? Tents? No, they are already rented…” and more. Very stressful sounding. Chances taken when planning an outside wedding though. Especially made more difficult when I’m standing there hearing all this in Swanglish: some Swahili and some English. Haha. I have been every part of a wedding, literally, that a guy could be besides the groom. Now I’m getting a glimpse at even that part of it. I tried to help the best I could.
Now I’m writing this again from my room and will post it tomorrow (Tues) at some point from the Café. I just got to watch Da Bears 2nd quarter as they charged ahead of the Vikings. I’m too tired though to stay up and watch the second half. Hope they win. Tomorrow Fred told me to bring my trunks and Mask/Snorkel…sounds like the Indian Ocean is about to have a Mzungu in it. Yes!
P.S. I saved The Animal Game from our Game Night at my apartment weeks ago on my camera and have watched it almost every day here in Kenya. It has made me laugh and helped me not feel so alone here. Looking forward to seeing my new Calvary friends again next week, as we resume Game Night!

Bye Nairobi...Hello Mombasa!
This morning started off with finalizing the plans with Fred via Zach’s phone. After bath, breakfast, and bye’s we headed to meet Fred at the bus station. We got there 1.5 hours early though so we went back to his sister Sham (Samini) and Mother Paulie’s apartment. Very nice place. I got to finally meet Fred’s Fiance Sharon that I’ve been hearing about for a year and just seeing via FB. Fred and I ran down to the store and when we got back Miss Paulie and Aunt Esther got there. We all loaded up and headed to the bus stop just in time to load up and go. (Paulie and Esther asked how Dawn and Roxie are back home, and send their love. They will be coming here Thursday.)
Over the next 8 hours Fred and I caught up bigtime and laughed and laughed. It was lovely getting to know Sharon more too. The view outside was much like the south western US and even Mexico, which surprised me. It rained part of the way and was cloudy until right before the sun went down, so most of my pictures didn’t turn out great. I enjoyed it though. I got a 2-seat spot to myself with Fred/Sharon in front of me. About halfway through Fred moved next to me so we could chat and so Sharon could nap. It was great getting to talk to him in person. Also to hear about the engagement process of Kenya, wow, I don’t know if I could’ve done it. It takes the whole ask the parents tradition to a whole new level.
If I understood correctly, the guy goes to the parents’ house with his closest friends and they have food but the guy is not allowed to talk at all. Any questions the friends answer for him. If the parents approve then they say something like please come back with family. He then comes back with his parents and uncles to meet her parents and uncles and neither set of parents are allowed to communicate but the uncles do…If that goes well then the engagement is official. (If you are reading this and from Kenya then forgive me if I’m missing details, ha)Anyway, we made it to Fred’s apartment which is very nice. After getting settled in we picked up Sharon and had some dinner. I’m now typing this in Word on the bed in my room and will post this via a coffee shop with WIFI in the morning sometime after 9am or 2am your time. This will be how I’ll have to do it this week as he only uses his phone or work internet.
I’m excited to be here and to spend time with Fred & Sharon and have some fun. Most of the ministry this week will be to Fred, Sharon, and their family as they begin to roll in for Saturday’s Big Day, The Wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Onyango.
I’m very much looking forward to what this week has in store. I really enjoyed last week but it was an intense week of group evangelism and preaching. This week will be a more intimate hands on intentional week of evangelism and encouragement…thus a bit slower. Still pray for me because sometimes it is easier to preach to a crowd then minister to a few.

Amazing Day of Ministry!! (beware long blog)
To God be all the glory and honor for what great things He has done in me and thru me. It has been a very blessed day! I won't even talk about how the minivan I was in broke down on the highway on way to park to where I was left stranded with non-english speaking Kenyans for over an hour wondering what in the world was going to happen becuase I had NO way of getting a hold of Zach. I won't talk about that BECAUSE the minivan had more than 25 kids packed into it and when we got to the park were met by 25 or more kids for over 50 kids and 20 adults that I got to minister to. The day went great once we arrived until now as I write this.
The Kids Day was at the park where there was actually a blow up bounce house and slide combo, along with a hand driven ferris wheel for the smaller kids. I broke out the stickers that was purchased with money from one of my friends back home. As I opened them, Cars for the boys and Princesses for the girls, the kids bombarded me. I began by placing them on each childs left cheek but by the time I was finished there were stickers on both cheeks, forehead, chin, ears, arms, etc upon the request of the children. I have lots of pictures and video. There were 3 rols of each type of sticker and we didn't even use 1 up, so I'm so thankful to be able to leave them with stickers to give kids for a long time to come. I then blew up 8 large balloons that had rubberbands, the punch kind, and let the kids share and play with them. One made it through the whole day...haha.
I then pulled out (3) things of bubbles and mass hysteria ensued. So much fun watching the kids run around striving to pop every bubble before it hits the ground, giggling the whole way.
After that settled down I broke out the guitar and began to just play the simple chords that I know and a group of kids came to dance and sing. I taught them the motions and repeat parts to Aint No Rock (rock, rock, rock), the wave motions & LaLa's to Every Move I Make, the shouts and motions to Shout To The North, the motions and words to This Little Light Of Mine, they knew Jesus Loves Me already, and then sang with Mike playing guitar the 2 songs I've learned in Swahili.
After the music the children sat down and I explained the bracelets that the ladies of the church helped make more than enough for the kids. Enough that they will be able to give out these bracelets to 100+ more kids/adults and there is still another role of twine and half of the beeds. Praise God for that gift and how it will be used here in Nairobi! As I explained the colors a brother translated but the kids caught on even in English. I then handed all of the kids bracelets and the adults standing there. While the translator taught the kids using an illustration book, I walked around the park and gave everyone, child and adult, a bracelet and tried to explain as best I could as some probably didn't understand. I at least made sure they knew they were free gifts, from America, and that God loves them. God can do the rest..
Afterward, I went into the restaurant near with Zach and bought everyone lunch so they could eat after the teaching. Thank you God for the job you gave me so that I could bless these wonderful people and children out of the abundance of your blessing. I pray that these children, with the leadership of the church, will come to Christ and grow to be a wave of true Christians in Nairobi in the near future!
From there we went to church for the last night of revival and a revival it was. God was real and thick and allowed me to be merely a vessel of His message. Words cannot describe what my heart feels right now nor how He moved amongst His people tonight with simple words from a simple Mzungu Mnono (Fat White Boy) like me. I am so humbled that Baba Mungu (Father God) would use me. I preached on "Keep Your Eyes On God or you may miss out on the blessings He has for you" using the story of Moses and Aaron striking the rock for water...when God told him to Speak to the rock. (I have some of the message on video but believe Zach got the whole thing on audio) WE ARE NOT ALONE and God wants to bless us but not if we disobey Him.
I am waiting now on Zach to get here so we can call Fred, so I can find out when our bus ride is tomorrow. They asked me to preach again in the morning but I don't know when the bus ride is. Agnus says probably 8-9am but I'll be back next Sunday morning, so maybe I'll preach that service instead, as my flight is next Sunday night at 11:30pm.
So God's ministry here in Nairobi has came to a close for me but I pray that what God has directed me to say and do will have lasting impact on these beautiful people and that they will continue to win souls for Christ with maybe some more practical knowledge of how and a new revived passion to do so.
Pray4me as I travel tomorrow.

Safari and Service
Day started early by going to the Animal Orphanage on the Southside of the City of Nairobi. This is where they have rescued rare or wild animals that have been orphaned. Sort of like a zoo but much more wild as there were monkeys walking amongst you as you toured. Wild monkeys. It started pouring rain while there. The guide ran and got one small umbrella and so it barely covered me but Zach & Mike refused to get under because I had cameras. Such great guys.
We then went on a Safari through the wildlife preserve...sadly cant remember the name, took a picture but battery on camera died afterwards. Regardless the rain stopped. After a mix-up in vehicle portion of the trip we ended up saving money and driving our own vehicle with a guide. I was pretty nervous as the rain had made a mess of things. We made it though with only a few sketchy spots. We got to see Monkeys, Warthogs, Giraffes, (2) Lioness' and 3 Cubs playing, Zebras, Ostritches, Antelopes, Buffalos in the distance, and Rhinos in the distance. A few other animals and birds too. Of course it was just a beautiful huge wildlife reserve with acacia trees, an oasis, and more. We had a blast. Oh, I forgot to tell you that when we saw these animals the guide let us stop the car and get out. That wouldn't have happened if we would've went in the Safari vehicle, so that was a blessing in disguise. We were no more than 50 feet tops from the Lions, Zebras, and more. So awesome.
Afterward, as we were leaving a baboon or some bigger monkey walked in front of us, out the gate, through the crowd of kids, and then sat down. It was hilarious. We ate at the Reserve's restaurant on their back deck and 10 feet below was an antelope eating, a bunch of monkeys, and a warthog. One monkey climbed up and grabbed the flowers out of the vase at the table next to ours. It smelled the flowers threw them down and then picked up the vase and sat down to drink the water. One of the waiters tried to shew it off but it just jumped on floor and walked right up to us until it finally ran away. HaHa. So cool. There were also some indigenous Africans there that we hung out with a bit.
After over 2 hours of horrible traffic, we made it to the revival. Right after we got there I was asked to come and preach. This time Zach interpreted for me and Ohhhhh what a time we had together. I got some of it on video but once again the battery died on the camera. God was real and thick in the place as God directed me to encourage the church to be Evangelists to people outside the church and giving them simple steps to intentionally evangelize and help "Turn the world upside down" like Paul & Silas of old. God blessed and encouraged me through this possibly more than them. God is sooooo good and we need to tell everyone!
After over 3 hours of horrible traffic and I'm back home. Zach turned right back around and is going to the church for an all night prayer service but I just cannot handle it due to my bout of sickness. He is going to come pick me up in the morning and then another full day of ministry with kids and then me preaching the final service of the revival.
Continue to pray4me! In Christ,

In Christ,

Fun, Busy, Blessed Day...
The day started a bit slow this morning as I was really congested and was therefore Pole Pole (pronounced Polay Polay) which means Slow Slow...this was ok as it seems to be the theme around here except when driving. Ha.
Took a quick warm hand bath and shaved my face using the front camera on my Iphone as they don't have mirrors (which made the compact mirror I bought Agnus more special than I would've ever thought, thank you very much Father God or Asandi Sana Baba Mungo). She was gone already tho, or I would've asked to borrow it...haha.
Spent an hour plus making bracelets from beads and twine that Joe gave me to bring. Each bead tells a part of the gospel message...we gave some out yesterday (like 25) but there will be 100+ children Saturday I'm told, at least to expect that many. (tonight Zach gave the rest of the twine and beads to some ladies in the church that will spend almost all day tomorrow making some, that is a blessing, they were actually excited as I explaied what it took to make them. So they turned out to be a double blessing.)
Zach, Mike, and I then went to the Giraffe Center where we got to hand feed full grown Giraffes. That was intense. I have pictures and videos. One crazy Mzungu female put a pellet in her lips to be funny but the Giraffe reached and licked her whole face...imagine sand paper with slime on it. Very gross. Haha.
We then Pole Pole went to church, as traffic is horendous and so it takes forever to get anywhere...Chicago has nothing on Nairobi, promise.
I played/sang "Every Move I Make" which went over well because it has the LaLaLaLa chorus...they clapped and La'd very loudly. They put a speaker outside of the church and I brought a guitar chord so I was plugged in and Pastor Richard held the mic, so before the song was over there was a ton of kids and more outside watching and even singing the LaLa part. Probably just because they heard English from an Mzungu.
I preached on "Don't Sit but Stand!" I felt much more comfortable with the translator, James, tonight. I said we need to Stand Strong, and Bold even if we do it alone...BUT we are never alone! I was very humbled to find out after that Pastor Richard preached a similar message last Sunday saying "We are not alone!" The church was very receptive and Pastor Richard even just called Zach as I was writing this and made him hand me the phone and he tearfully said it was needed and couldn't thank me enough. God is so good and knows so much better than we.
Tomorrow is going to be an early day, whether I feel like it or not...Zach, Mike, and I are going to the Reserve and having a Safari as well as visiting the Animal Orphanage which homes all kinds of animals. We will then do a little shopping, so I can buy some of you stuff, and then on to church where I will sing and preach again. Pray 4me! I just want to be used and be a blessing...the hands and feet of Baba Mungu!

Whoa...what a day...
I'm going to start this with a quick praise and prayer request...I still have NOT got sick from the food, which is a major blessing (as I remember too vividly the Mexico missions trips), so that is a major praise. Prayer request is that I'm starting to get congested and a head cold. I think it is because most of the roads are dirt and it is too hot to have windows up...also almost every meal I have eaten with NO silverware and GermX only is 99.9% effective. Ha. Pray that I don't get stomach sick and for a quick recovery from head cold.
Now for the intense day...I will do a quick timeline for you that don't care to have as much detail as I gave yesterday:
1. Started day off with devotion and hand wash from the bucket of warm water again.
2. We went to visit the children of Kangemi School here in the slums. Gave out bracelets, did bubbles, and played music, danced, and sang. So much fun!
3. We went to Emy's House for the elderly, where Zach's wife works, and spent time visiting, praying, and witnessing to some wonderful people. Such a blessing!
4. We went to revival where I played/sang and preached with an interpreter, as some of the people in the church speak NO english. It was much harder than Mexico as I know some spanish. God helped me big time!
5. We went back to the slums where we went back to Zach's aunt's place where we prayed for Alan (who seems to be better) and I broke out the Glow Sticks...you should've seen the kids & adults. They were amazed.
I could say so much about each place but I will let the pictures and videos talk later...if you are interested in hearing more about any of the above events, please email me and I'll answer back tomorrow!
I'm going to leave you with two simple praise choruses that I have learned and can't wait for you to hear. Zack and I have non-stop been singing these and we've been singing them each night at revival. There is more to the songs but I can't seem to get these out of my head. SO fun to sing and so sweet to hear them singing it and repeating after each other.
1st one...
Baba Wambimbumi
Hakuna Kama Wewe!.
(Father of Heaven, There is none like you!)
2nd one...
Ni wewe, Ni wewe Bwana
Ni wewe, Ni wewe Bwana
(It is You, It is You, Lord)
Keep praying for me!

Following The Way...
Today I woke up bright and early, excited about what God was going to do. I started the morning with a devotional, went on the roof, played some guitar, and prayed. God was real and present this morning. Then time for a cold shower...no water...I prefer cold water to no water, expecially when you have to get lathered up before to conserve water. So with soap all over and shampoo in my eyes I had to use a small bucket to do the deed and save some to assist with the toilet flush. Oh how WE americans have NO clue how blessed we are.
After some breakefast, thanks to Auntie Carol, as Zach calls her, Pastor Richard and other men came over and we had a prayer meeting. Afterwards we split up into two vehicles to tackle different ministry events. Pastor Richard, Zachary, and I went down the road to visit Zach's Aunt Felistas and Alan, her son. He is sick so she asked us to come, lay hands on him, and pray. Zach asked me to lead the prayer. It was a very emotional humbling experience as we were sitting in their one room place with string and sheets separating the maybe 15 foot square area into rooms. After I prayed she thanked me... her Joy was inspiring and her smile lit up the dark room. I goofed around with Alan until I got a smile and a chuckle which blessed my soul.
Zach and I can't help but sing the entire time we are in the car, which is for a long time between points due to horrible road conditions, horrible driving and even the people who expect the car to go around them as they walk in the middle of the lane. (In fact, we actually hit a lady today but thankfully she was just grazed and was ok. I knew it would happen. You have NO clue how bad it is. Hope you get to see my videos!) Anyway, Zach has been bombarding me with Swahili and even helping me re-write some songs into Swahili.
Like "I am a friend of God" by Philips, Craig, and Dean:
Mimi Rafiki Ya Mungo, Mimi Rafiki Ya Mungo, Mimi Rafiki Ya Mungo, Annanita Rafiki. Try singing it if you know the tune...not very easy.
On the way to church we stopped at Pastor Ezekiels church, in a small village, to get some musical items for the revival. While they did several children came up to the car, so I got out and grabbed my bubbles. They had no clue what it was that I had but when I made the bubbles they giggled like it was Christmas. More and more children came from afar to chase and bust the bubbles, giggling the whole time. We are going to go back but didn't have time to stay long.
Finally after 2+ hours to what took us 20 minutes the other night we made it to Word Evangelical Gospel Ministries which meets in a small storefront which requires a generator for lights. They let me speak breifly and sing the special after an awesome worship service in Swahili. I sang/played "How Great Thou Art" which went well as after a few choruses they chimed in. Quick singing learners! Pastor Ezekiel preached and then asked me back up to close the service in prayer.
A very long but blessed day. I'm writing this tonight, 11pm, because we have an early start in the morning. Thanks again for the prayers, keep them coming as we are trying to be a light in a very dark part of the world.

Mzungu Amongst Us...
Mzungu (pronounced Mazoongoo) means White Man in Swahili...Well there was definitely a crazy Mzungu in Nairobi yesterday. One of Zachary's friends Francis brought his car to the slums to pick us up and ride into the city. He is letting us use it all week, as once we were in the city he took public transportation back home. WOW.
The ride into the inner part of the city was about the scariest, craziest, and most stressful thing I've ever been a part of. I didn't breathe for what seemed like minutes several times. The Public transportation do their own thing and often pass you in the oncoming traffic lane only to dart right back in front of you because of that oncoming traffic. Like it is a surprise that someone is coming. Cars and People alike do not respect the vehicles...and when I say people I mean sooooo many people. I video'd... We almost seriously wrecked 5 times and almost ran over like 20 people easy. We finally made it to a parking garage that we were able to park in thanks to Francis knowing a security guard there. This was no less stressfull though as it is one way up and down and as we started up (much steeper than the parking garage downtown Chattanooga) a SUV came flying around the corner and no joke came 2" from hitting us head on. We then had to jocky back and forther to get past each other and our mirror literally toucherd their vehicle. The floorboard now has a permanent Chaco imprint from my feet. Ha.
Once we made it to the city I learned the meaning of Mzungu...I literally was the only white person that i saw the entire ride in and the entire 4 hours we were down town. I mean, I know I'm in Africa and all but downtown Nairobi I figured would be different. We ate lunch and the whole time I was there I was the only Mzungu. Not one time though did I feel strange though. Everyone smiled and was happy to have me. It was definitely not like home in the same situtation. Zach took me around and showed me the city, just taking it Polo Polo (slowly-slowly) as he said since it was my first day, though God blessed me with NO jet lag. It was a nice time to catch up with him and get to know him even better which will allow us to minister together much better the rest of the week.
On way home went to a shopping mall in a pretty nice section of town, had to pay to get in. There I saw 3 Mzungu, 2 europeans and 1 american. Ha. I wasn't excitied but almost saddened that there was the only place I saw them. Anyway, there was a Java Shop so we stopped got a shake and got on WIFI. I was able to upload some pictures and even use 'Hey Tell' to talk to some people. I didn't think about that. If you don't know what it is, it is like a Walkie Talkie over the internet. This allowed me to talk and hear almost instantly from people without using the phone, as I didn't get an international package on my phone. Nice to be able to hear from Kathy's class (as she was at school), Kevin, Allen & Billy from work, and even Woody (who was in class).
We finished the night at home. I gave Prince, Zachs 5 year old son, the present I brought him. Talking, Moving Thomas the Train. He was super shy at first and even asked if he could NOT open it in front of me. Once he opened it thought he opened up and until made to stop for bed non stop followed it around the floor with big eyes and a big smile. Very cool.
We have a full day today which I will write about tomorrow. I'm going to finish out with some Swahili phrases that I've been taught (of course I may not spell them right but am spelling them as they sound which should be helpful for you to pronounce):
Jambo - Hello
Tafidali - Excuse Me
Asanda Sana - Thank you very much
Quahary - Bye
Wapi Cho - Where is the toilet?
Bwana Yesu - Lord Jesus
Mfalimay Yesu - King Jesus
Baba Mungu - Father God
Bwana Asifeway - Praise the Lord
Nompenda Yesu - I love you Jesus
Mocozi Yesu - Savior Jesus
Thanks for your prayers...keep them coming.

Praise God, I made it...Night 1.
Hello everyone from Kenya! What a long travel but well worth it.I believe.
Zachary works at the airport and so he was able to meet me at my gate and walk me through the airport and us catch up while in line for my Visa. Had no problems, in fact because he knew people they didn't even go through my bags, just waved me through the line. Praise God, as I had a lot of stuff to give the kids that I wasn't sure how they would take that.
We made it to Zachary's house at 12:45am Monday... wow... what a ride, which could be a blog all to itself, ha. When I got here his wife, Agnus, had a bunch of food for us: Chicken, Rice, Cabbage, and their form of Pita Bread. All awesome. I ate it without drinking anything though because I fear the water. Going today to get some bottled water. We stayed up until after 2am catching up. I slept in the bottom bunk of a bunk bed with a mosquito net all around me. He lives in an apartment in the "slums" as he called it last night. There was a gate with barbed wire that we passed through tho so I feel completely safe.
I got up this morning about 9am (2am your time) and took a cold shower but I did have a bucket of water that they heated up so I could have some hot water. Quite a humble adjustment to say the least. Not sure what all the day is going to have but I'm super pumped. I feel completely rested and ready to go...no Jet Lag whatsoever at this point. Praise God!
Thank you all for your prayers...keep them coming as the Mission for Christ has just officially began!

So it Begins...for real...
Shalom! As I sit here in the ATL airport having made it thru check in and security check with no problem, it finally sinks in that today will be the last normal day for weeks and quite possibly for the rest of my life. I have no clue what all God is doing or going to do in me and those that He places in my life over the next few weeks. I know that I want to be humbly aware of His presence and be tuned to the Holy Spirit for whatever may come my way. Possibly as soon as sitting next to someone lost and being able to share Christ and lead them to Him. I just want to be used and share the joy that I have in my heart only because of Christ.
Am I nervous? For those who know me know that it takes a lot to make me nervous. I don't feel nervous about serving Him in anyway He affords, I'm not even nervous about not knowing what all is going to take place in this time of service. But rather I'm nervous that I will somehow miss an opportunity of what He wants to change in me! I wholeheartedly feel after spending some time last year with these wonderful Kenyan people that God is going to use them to bless me & affect me way more than I will be able to do anything for them. I want so much to be open to the Holy Spirit in new ways that I never thought possible.
I pray that I just be open to whatever God is going to do an act accordingly and be changed accordingly. Please pray to that end with me!
In Christ,
Kyle

Getting Pumped...
I am so excited to see what God is going to do in and thru me over in Kenya. I was reminded last night of a video I took in the Garden of Gethsemane last year where the Kenyans broke out into song after taking the Lord Supper and having a prayer meeting. This just lit my fire. The guy in the video with shaved head and blue-white shirt is Zachary, whom I will be with in Nairobi.
I don't have time to say much right now but wanted to share this video.

It's great to have Godly friends...
Tonight started as just another game night meant for food, fun, and fellowship...which was a complete success having 12 people, great Italian food, and big & small group games! Shout out to Madison for her great Spaghetti Caserole, Casey for her drinks & Pumpkin Bread, Amber for her Brownies, and Kevin for the ice!
The night ended up including a considerate prayer send off by these new friends! It was a very sweet time of encouragement and excitement through them gathering around me as I was on my knee. They laid their hands on me and prayed for safety, direction, passion, and power through Christ. They have no clue how much that helped ease my heart and soul as this is all happening so fast. Thank you so much Kevin, Amber, Alora, Joel, Jessica, Sarah, and Casey. It's so awesome to have you guys in my life now!
I know that the others wouldve joined if we would've done that before they left as well as I know some of you would have too! Please continue to pray for me!
In Christ,
Kyle!

Kenya, here I come!
As you may know I have been praying about Kenya for a long while now...as far back as 2004 when I met missionaries to Kenya...even back in 2000 when I read about Missionary David Livingston that traveled all throughout Africa...all of this came to an Apex last October when I met some guys whom I had no idea would become such blessings and encouragements and brothers to me over the last year whom are Kenyans. While in Israel last year we spoke of opportunities to minister in Kenya and that dream has now became a reality. I just got my ticket for this coming Saturday the 8th. Praise God!
The Itinerary in jist:
Atlanta (Sat @ 12:25pm) to Newark to Brussels to Nairobi (Sun @ 10:25pm)
Nairobi to Mombasa (Mon 17th)
Mombasa to Nairobi (Sun 23rd)
Nairobi (Sun 23rd @ 11:25pm) to Brussels to Newark to Atlanta (Mon 24th
More information to come soon...I just wanted to PRAISE GOD and thank you for your prayers and interest! Now to get back to work...as I have tons to do at TennRand...as well with Kids at Calvary...and preparing for the trip.
If God has laid on your heart at any point to support me then please let me know. God has taken care of me and will continue but if you feel led I don't want to keep you from blessing me or the Kenyans that I meet.
In Christ,
KYLE
